From Savile Row to south Burgundy

Mar 24, 2013

Monsieur LondonWhat a week it’s been! From cocktails in London, to the green countryside of South Burgundy, the two founders of Monsieur London have spent their week running from meeting to meeting catching trains, planes, rental cars and taxis.

On Tuesday night, we were invited to Gieves and Hawkes at n°1 Savile Row, kingdom of fine British bespoke tailoring if there ever was one. The 200 year-old tailors, which has dressed political leaders, celebrities and monarchs ever since its establishment in 1771, was on this occasion celebrating the launch of the Justin FitzPatrick shoe collection. FitzPatrick, better known for his blog The Shoe Snob, has been the resident shoeshiner at this prestigious address for some time now while studying to be a shoemaker in Italy. The result of his hard work is a splendid shoe collection mixing leather and suede in various colours and styles: olive-green brogues, black leather boots with petrol-blue suede tops and his signature red and black leather model.

It was a delightful way to spend a Tuesday evening: flawless quality shoes delivered by Justin and his associate Ngoni Tshekeche, fine company and being surrounded by Gieves and Hawkes' archives, bespoke tailoring, and team. It was truly England at its best. While we wait in anticipation for the website to be launched, feel free to check out his blog to take a look at his creations and learn about better shoe care.

The second half of the week was just as exciting as we headed to Lyon in search of high quality silk fabrics for our upcoming products. We then drove to the Beaujolais, an hour from Lyon, to sort the boxes of fabrics we had gathered, and from there headed to the south of Burgundy to meet a seamstress to develop prototypes for a capsule collection to come. We'll keep it as a surprise, but as always you can trust us with making beautiful high quality handcrafted accessories that will delight your sense of style.

All we can say for now is that collection being developed will be preppy and neat, so you can enjoy a well-deserved summer cocktail looking as dashing as ever.
